Please see Student resources section on this website for computer programs to use for review. Youtube is a favorite for songs and stories. Jack Hartman, Harry Kindergarten,The Singing Walrus are a few ideas for songs to practice by.
Reading
* Recognize sight words: see, me, can, look, at, my, here, is, the, it, in, this, go, we, be, went, she, he, you, am, on, up, get, play, for
- Please practice reading and writing these snap words
* Read with your child daily, to develop fluency through choral reading
- Retell a story (discuss story elements such as characters, setting, plot, problem, solution, and author's message).
- Use transitional words-first, next, then , last when retelling.
*Discuss the difference between fiction and non-fiction books
* Look at picture clues and "stretching out' words to determine unknown words.
Writing
* Practice writing our full (first and last) names
* Write our name with upper and lower case letters including a space between both names.
* Draw a picture and describing what is happening in it
* Write simple sentences with correct structure
of ideas (upper case letter in the beginning of a sentence, spacing
between words, punctuation at the end of the sentence), including snap words.
Math
* Count and draw sets of numerals 1-20 (ex: give your child a number and ask them to draw on paper: could be something simple like small circles. make sure they count as they draw to ensure their set is the correct number).
* Play counting games with a partner
*Numbers that are one more and one less up to 100 (Also use vocabulary: before and after)
* Review positional words: on, above, behind, below, next to
*Review shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, and circle)
*Arrange sets from least to greatest and greatest to least
*Count to 100 by ones and tens
*Identify coins: penny, nickel, dime, and quarter(practice counting pennies and understanding that five pennies equals a nickel and ten pennies equals a dime.
*Practice adding and subtracting two sets of numbers (you can help your child with visuals by drawing pictures or using simple things around the house)
Social studies/Science
* Our IB Learning Profile this month is "How We Organize Ourselves"
*Discuss differences between living and non-living things (in class, we learned that living things: grow, breathe, use energy, and reproduce. Activities you can do together is look at books and identify living and non-living as well as make a collage using magazines and flyers.
